H1N1 Flu and Vaccine - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can parents get vaccinated at the same time that their child does? No, our vaccine supply is specifically for children ages 18 years old down to 6 months.
  2. Are your doctors recommending the H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccine? Yes, our doctors are recommending both vaccines to all children ages 6 months and older.
  3. Is the H1N1 vaccine safe? Yes, the vaccine is manufactured the same way as seasonal flu vaccine. The benefit of the vaccine far outweighs the risk of getting the disease.
  4. Is it okay that the H1N1 vaccine contains thimerisol (preservative)? Yes, we consider this a safe vaccine.
  5. Is it okay to receive the vaccine elsewhere? Yes, you are welcome and encouraged to try and find a vaccine as soon as you can. Again, our supply will be limited and it will only last for a short time until we receive more. Pharmacies will be getting the exact same vaccine that we will be getting.
  6. My child has been diagnosed with H1N1, should we still get the vaccine? Yes, you should still get your child vaccinated.
  7. If my child is sick, can they still get the H1N1 vaccine? Yes.
